alien software package provides convert and install rpm and other packages, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install alien
alien is installed in your system.
Make ensure the alien package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep alien *
You will get with alien package name, version, architecture and description in a table
